By following Microsoft standards for software installation/uninstallation and user interface, as the logo requires, MapInfo customers will continue to benefit from greater stability and improved ease of use of the product.

Data Access
MapInfo views robust data access, particularly accessing a variety of data formats as key to interoperability and usefulness of spatial technology. The ability to access data from multiple data sources and data types makes MapInfo Professional a powerful and user friendly application for customers in all industries.

Example: A Marketing analyst in a telecommunications industry may be interested to see the relationship between existing network and potential customers. Or they may want to visualize the infrastructure data and overlay it with existing customer data as well as potential customers in order to develop a targeted marketing campaign. This analysis requires access to multiple data types and formats at once. MapInfo Professional provides this functionality right out of the box.

Database Connectivity
Data access in MapInfo Professional 7.5 has been enhanced to support the latest version of Oracle Spatial, 9i including 9.2.03 and 9i Locator, while continuing the support of Oracle v8.1.7.

Many private and public organizations use Oracle as the back office standard for their data. MapInfo Professional supports Oracle as well as Oracle Spatial directly, thus enables these organizations to analyze the data from its original source without additional IT effort on middleware.

Example of interoperability through Oracle: MapXtreme or Geo Media as well as MapInfo Professional can access Oracle directly for editing and analyzing the same spatial data.

MapInfo Professional v7.5 supports Microsoft Access 2000 and Microsoft SQL Server versions 7.0 and 2000.

MapInfo Professional 7.5 supports MapInfo SpatialWare 4.6 on all of its supported platforms including SpatialWare for MS SQL Server versions 7 and 2000 and Informix 9.21 with linked tables and live access.

Enhanced Table Viewing and Editing
MapInfo Professional v7.5 now supports the simultaneous viewing of over 200 remote tables in a single session. This is an increase from 45 tables in previous versions of the product.
The benefit is that customers now can view more complex maps than ever before and leverage dynamic layering in an efficient way. Furthermore, the ability to have more open files at one time saves time and allows more editable tables to be opened w/out forcing a save due to system limitations.
Example of the benefit: Data creators and analysts that are making edits to multiple remote tables will now have full roll back capability (undo). The new enhancement will facilitate greater efficiency by reducing the number of times MIPro users are required to save during edits.

Enhanced support of Microsoft Excel files
MapInfo Professional customers can now access Microsoft Excel data that is as large as Microsoft allows (65,536 rows). Previous versions of the product could only view the first 32,768 rows.

Example of the benefit: This enhancement is particularly needed by Data Analysts that often export data from their financial systems to Microsoft Excel for analysis. These files are often very large containing thousands of rows. The new enhancement will support the viewing of any size file that can be opened in Microsoft Excel.

Enhanced “Make Remote Table Mappable” interface
MapInfo Professional adds support for the automatic reading of the Oracle MetaData catalog when making existing Oracle tables mappable. This enhancement facilitates simpler and more accurate data description in MapInfo Professional. Organizations that use Oracle can simplify the data sharing process between client applications. i.e. A CAD software is often used to digitize the assets, and MapInfo Professional is used for data analysis. The enhanced “Make Remote Table Mappable” feature can access these tables and gain valuable information about the data. The net benefit is the facilitating of dynamic and effective sharing of information.

WMS - Web Mapping Service Client Support
MapInfo Professional v7.5 adds supports for Open GIS WMS Service. Customers can now access any Open GIS WMS Server (from any vendor) and add the data as a layer in MapInfo Professional. The Open GIS servers are often using different technologies in different locations over the intranet or internet. MapInfo Professional comes with many of them pre-loaded as examples with a simple user interface to add additional server locations as needed. The data that is accessed through WMS can be overlaid on top of data sets from local or remote sources. By supporting this Open GIS Consortium (OGC) service, MapInfo Professional provides a new level of integration and interoperability.

Example: MapInfo Professional v7.5 user can access company customer data from the company database, add street layers from MapInfo Data and access Globe Explorer for the latest aerial imagery of that location through the WMS interface. The final image will give a complete view of the required information with each of the layers coming from a different source.

Enhanced Projections (KKJ, JGD 2000)
• KKJ – enhanced accuracy
• JGD 200 – expanded geographic coverage

Key Benefit: The ability to visualize data in the most meaningful way often means supporting data representation that is region specific which primarily increases the data accuracy of the map for that region.

Enhanced Support for Fill Patterns
MapInfo Professional v7.5 enhances its fill patterns. One of the key benefits of MI Pro is map visualization – fill patterns of regions provide the ability to highlight a region or differentiate different territories from each other. MI Pro v7.5 adds over 100 new fill patterns giving greater options for map display.

Example: An analyst can use more complex and detailed fill patterns to highlight specific geographies or alternatively use the new patterns for thematic shading of detailed maps.

Enhanced Custom Symbols
MI Pro 7.5 provides the ability to have more custom symbols (up to 32,000), higher resolution and higher color depth and size symbols. Customers often prefer to use their own high-resolution company logo or even a store photo as a symbol on a map for their stores. MI Pro 7.5 makes all this possible. The benefit is higher quality maps with any image size or color as the symbol.

Example: MapInfo Professional v7.5 customers can use hi resolution company logos or store photos to show store locations. The logo can be of any size and color depth.

Improved Performance of Raster (imagery data)
MapInfo Professional v7.5 adds optimized “look ahead” logic for raster display. This code enhances the overall map processing by skipping invisible raster layers that do not need to be processed. This results in greater response from the product even with large data sets.
Benefit: More and more organizations utilize aerial imagery. The enhanced feature will automatically filter and render only the visible tiles – resulting in faster display time of maps.

Enhanced User Interface for Raster/Imagery and Vector files Registration
MapInfo Professional v7.5 enhances the raster registration process by providing the ability to select the control points from the map. This enhancement saves time and streamlines the geo referencing process of aerial imagery. Most importantly the enhancement enables any user to perform this action.
MapInfo adds a new vector registration utility that provides an option to re-project a vector layer. This utility significantly simplifies the import process of AutoCAD or Microstation files since this data often does not have projection information.

Improved 3D window resolution
The drape files over 3D terrain are now significantly of higher quality resulting in more legible labels and higher quality 3D maps.

The benefit is that the 3D window and Prism maps continue to be a distinctive and powerful way to visualize and analyze data. Version 7.5 makes this feature even more completing.

Example: Customers can open an elevation layer with map and imagery on top and project it in 3D view. The improvement now creates a significantly higher quality drape map image that is visible on the 3D view.

New Data Editing Capabilities
With the enhanced data editing functions, customers now can rotate a selection of any map-objects at a specified pivot point or offset map objects using precise units for a move or a copy operation. This capability is particularly important when creating custom geographies or editing and maintaining existing ones. Version 7.5 also adds the ability to zoom in/out while in data creation mode. Another enhancement to the editing function is the addition of continues visible snap area and option to toggle into cross-hair mode.
In the area of tools and utilities, MI Pro7.5 provides two new utilities. The first is the enhanced line creation by bearing and distance tool which now supports any unit of measure and the output can be directed to any editable layer. The second utility is a line snap/extend tool that will extend or snap specified intersecting line objects.

Object and Data Processing Enhancements
MapInfo Professional 7.5 greatly streamlined the user interface of some of the key object processing capabilities. As an example, buffering or creating Voronoi polygons from a selection or from an entire table creates separate objects that often need to be stored in a separate location. Version 7.5 offers the option to store the output in a new table, as part of the buffer or the Voronoi process. The new flow greatly simplifies the data processing and analysis processes resulting in significant time savings to the user.
