Internet
Support
Take it to the 'net!
Link maps to the World Wide Web with MapInfo Professional's new
Internet connectivity. Now, any object in a map can now contain a URL
automatically launching your browser when you click on that object with
the new HotLink tool. In addition to URLs, the link can be to any document
file (.doc, .xls, .ppt, .tab, .wor, .mdb, etc.) the Windows operating
system is able to launch.
You may also use MapInfo Professional to generate HTML Image
Maps and publish maps on your web site. The new Create Image Map feature
enables you to select the layers, columns, output format, image size and
even copyright line for your images. Check the dialog box and you've made
landing pages for each object in your map!
3D Viewing
Enter
a whole new dimension with MapInfo Professional's
eye-popping 3D views.
Now you can create a 3D view of any map containing a continuous
thematic grid layer. Based on Microsoft's implementation of OpenGL
software graphics interface, the new 3D viewing feature allows
freehand tilt and rotation of the image as well as traditional
panning and zooming.
Once you've experienced 3D views from MapInfo Professional
- all other mapping software will leave you flat!

Object
Processing Features
New
improvements to object processing put you in control.
Now generate polygons based on existing objects: around the
areas enclosed by selected linear objects or as the minimum
bounding convex polygon for all selected objects. MapInfo
Professional 6.0 provides improved performance by using the
clip region capability inherent in MS Windows - allowing lines,
symbols and even text to be clipped exactly at the edge of the
region. Better control means better results.

Enhanced
Cartographic Legend
Our
enhanced cartographic legend is your key to success.
First introduced in version 5.0, the cartographic legend better
aligns items between frames and allows generating item
descriptions from expressions based on joining two tables
together. Icons and descriptions line-up cleanly, neatly - and
automatically. |
Output &
Geocoding
Give
it a good look!
Extensive enhancements to printing include support for 24-bit
color, Enhanced Metafile (EMF), optional transparency handling,
color dithering method control and persistence of paper size and
margins in workspaces. The result is faster, better looking and
more convenient output.
Make
your point.
MapInfo Professional's built-in geocoding capability has
been improved to include user control over the placement of an
address with respect to the street segment. Now specify how far to
offset an address from the side of a street and how far to inset
an address from the ends of street segments!

New &
Improved Tools
Two new rotation tools
- one for symbols and one for labels - have been added for ease of
use. These new tools enable you to rotate all the symbols or
labels in a map at once.
The ScaleBar tool has been further improved to create
horizontal scale bars even on projected maps with curved lines of
latitude.
The Table Manager tool now supports adding, modifying and
deleting meta data keys and displays the meta data associated with
a table, as always. Meta data templates can also streamline the
process for users who create or modify tables frequently.

New Raster &
Vector Format Support
| The ECW raster handler
from ER Mapper and the Vertical Mapper Grid handler from Northwood
Geoscience are included on the v6.0 CD enabling MapInfo
Professional to read and display directly from files in their
respective formats.
The Universal Translator derived from Safe Software's FME
Translator now includes support for AutoCAD 2000 and the ability
to import VPF and SDTS vector format files.

Multi-User Database
Connectivity
Data access in MapInfo Professional 6.0 has been
enhanced to support the 8.1.6 release of Oracle8i Spatial (and continues
to support 8.1.5) and Microsoft Access 2000. The MS Access support
includes multi-user access to individual tables.
