What's New with
MapInfo Professional v4.1
- Direct access to Microsoft Access databases--an
often-asked-for feature from end users (available
only in the 32-bit version of MapInfo
Professional 4.1).
- MapGen--improved OLE automation interface
for programming display mapping functions such as
zoom and pan from within other development
environments such as VisualBasic, Delphi, C++.
MapGen is designed to provide Web Site
administrators the ability to load and position
maps, and to export those maps to graphics when
using a MapInfo ProServer solution. These OLE
automation extensions will also be useful to
anyone writing Integrated Mapping applications.
Customized apps with simpler viewing
functionality no longer require MapBasic.
- Autometric SQS--allows storage and
retrieval of complex spatial objects (maps) on
Sybase databases, moving more of the work to the
server and making MapInfo Professional a better
client.
- Exporting Functionality to Photoshop 3.0--allows
endusers, for the first time, to export mapping
images from MapInfo Professional 4.1 to Photoshop
3.0, one of the most popular presentation
formats.
- Blue Marble GPS software--Add-on to
MapInfo Professional which was previously
included on a floppy disk in the 4.0 box. It can
now be installed by running the Blue Marble
installer from the GPS directory on the MapInfo
Professional 4.1 CD. Documentation can be founded
in the MapInfo User Guide and Reference Manual.
- MapFAQs--a new book included in the
documentation set. This book walks users through
some common MapInfo tasks that are often the
subject of technical support calls.
- Labeling enhancements--now include the
ability to create text objects from labels and
the ability to force a label to appear on a line
or polyline, even if the centroid of that line is
not currently visible.
